About the Contributors

Aaliyah Roulston is a recent graduate of the BA Sociology program, where she centered her work on justice, care, and community within Black life. Her research spans Black women’s maternal mortality, the pathways that lead Black gay boys into drug use and sexual exploitation, and, most recently, the chosen family networks Black queer people build when faced with rejection from biological relatives. She is passionate about restorative justice in Black communities and is committed to producing work that uplifts resilience, healing, and collective belonging

Sarah Yuabov is a fourth-year Sociology major graduating in the Fall of 2025. She is on the pre-dental track and is deeply interested in how social inequality affects oral health. Her work focuses on improving access to preventive dental care and understanding the structural barriers that shape health outcomes in underserved communities. She hopes to bring both her sociological training and her commitment to health equity into her future career as a dentist, where she plans to advocate for fair and community-centered care.

Blanca Moreno is a recent B.A. in Sociology graduate and aspiring physician. She currently serves as a MEDLIFE ambassador, supporting the 501(C)(3) non-profit organization in their initiatives to improve healthcare accessibility across Latin America and Africa. She is motivated to pursue a career in medicine that combines clinical practice with global health work, her passion for social change, and community-centered advocacy.

Michaela Pierre is a fourth-year B.A. Sociology student with a minor in Government and Politics. She is passionate about intergovernmental governance and photography, while also pursuing her M.B.A. at St. John's University.

Charlotte Mohr is a student in the Criminal Justice and Sociology program, having just finished her bachelor's degree. She is passionate about learning and is hoping to go into the social work field or law enforcement with the idea of becoming a professor down the line.

Rachel Bernaschina holds a B.A Sociology with a minor in History. She is the current Graduate Assistant of the Sociology and Anthropology Department and is in her final semester in the Sociology MA program.

Jeffery Su is a researcher and writer with a focus on family violence, social dynamics, and community interventions. His work explores the intersections of personal experience and broader societal patterns, aiming to raise awareness and inform policy. He is committed to translating research into practical insights that can support families and communities in navigating complex challenges

Alexa Coddington is pursing an M.A. in Criminology & Justice. After acquiring her masters degree she plans on working as a crime victims advocate and be a voice for those who have lost theirs.

Hannah Faddah earned her B.A. degree in forensic psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven and is completing her M.A. degree in the Criminology and Justice Program at St. John's University.

Ashley Covington holds a BS in Communication Arts and a MA in Sociology

Julia Sanchez is a graduate student in the Master’s program in Criminal Justice at St.  John’s University. She earned her B.A. in Psychology in May 2025. Her interests include mental health and how it affects the criminal justice system, as well as the social factors that influence crime and people’s experiences with the legal system.

Jamal Brown is currently a master’s student in criminology and justice and is expected to graduate in May 2026. His interests include criminal and civil (in the human rights and education wing), athletics, watching documentaries, and writing. He has experience as an investigator as an intern with the Department of Investigation and the Legal Aid Society Criminal Defense Practice, and looks forward to the numerous possibilities after graduation.​

Ragavei Kathirgamathamby is a fourth-year student at St. John’s University pursuing a B.S. in Health and Human Services and a B.A. in Sociology. She plans to pursue a Master of Social Work and is interested in immigration, health inequality, and social justice.

Madison Traverzo holds a B.S. in Communication Arts and is a current Marketing Coordinator for Innovant Inc. and is currently in her final semester of the Sociology MA program

Bryce P. Pierrelouis is currently pursuing a B.A. in Sociology, complemented by minors in Social Work and Public Administration and Public Service. His academic path reflects a deep commitment to understanding social systems, structural inequality, and the lived experiences of marginalized communities. Through his studies, Bryce seeks to bridge theory and practice, equipping himself with the tools to advocate effectively, influence policy, and serve communities with integrity. He aspires to build a career rooted in public service, where he can contribute to meaningful social change and empower those whose voices are too often overlooked. â€‹â€‹â€‹

Jasmine Clark earned her B.A. in Psychology in May 2025 from St. John’s University and is currently completing her last year of the Criminology and Justice Master's Program.

Nenen Diallo completed her B.A. in Psychology and is currently finishing the final year of her M.A. in Criminology and Justice at St. John’s University. She is interested in understanding why people do what they do, particularly at the intersection of psychology and criminology. Nenen hopes to work in the field and contribute to making the world a more just place.

Caterina Fox is a graduate student in the Master’s program in Criminal Justice at St.  John’s University. She earned her B.B.A. in Business Administration with concentrations in Accounting, Information Systems, and Auditing in 2024. Her academic interests include white-collar and cybercrime, financial investigations and compliance, and the intersection of law and business.

Shariah Pitts holds a B.A. in Forensic Criminology and is currently pursuing her M.A. in  Criminology & Criminal Justice at St. John’s University. Her interests include justice reform,  structural inequality, and the impact of the legal system on marginalized communities.  Motivated by both her studies and lived experience, Shariah plans to pursue a career in criminal defense, where she hopes to advocate for equitable representation and contribute to a more just legal system.

Danyal Sheikh has earned his B.A. in Psychology and is currently pursuing an M.A. in Criminology and Justice at St. John’s University.​

Isaac Barnes holds a MA in Global Development and Social Justice. He is currently a research consultant in Leipzig, Germany.

Milo Aviles is a recent graduate and is now pursuing further studies in the areas of anthropology and archaeology. He is also passionate about disability activism, LGBTQ+ rights, and social justice.

​Isabel Caamaño is pursuing a B.A. in English at St. John’s University, with graduation expected for 2026. She is drawn to studying literature’s role in reflecting and positively impacting society. In addition, as a Theology minor, she has studied and is motivated by the Catholic doctrine of Social Responsibility that recognizes the human dignity of all and the value of a society that seeks to rectify inequalities and nurture the common good.​

Nganga Eunice Mbawa is a second- year B.S. Biomedical Science student at St. John's University. As an aspiring orthopedic surgeon, she hopes to encourage safety and security within the healthcare field for paraplegic minorities stifled by the harmful misconceptions regarding their ailments, encouraged by non-American cultures, and the racial abuse they face from navigating a white supremacist one.
